The big news
Yes, we are starting a family. Although we found out that we were expecting on Mother's Day, we waited to tell our family until June 15 when Tom's parents would be visiting us in Oregon. Tammy quietly invited her mom, brother's family, an aunt and uncle, and Tom's parents to a family birthday dinner to celebrate Jim's birthday and Tammy's birthday. After dinner and after the gifts were opened, we presented everyone with another gift that will be arriving in January. Most people seemed shocked (and happy) with the news. It was a fun way to surprise everyone with the big news that we had to keep secret for so long.
